The average cost of a film in the Nigerian film industry cost about 10 to 15,000 dollars, and it sells about 50,000 copies. A big hit like Beyonce sells several hundred thousand copies, sometimes, millions. I am a Haitian director, and I find it distressing that I can get this information about the African film industry, or most any other film industry, but not my own Haitian industry. What's the big secret? Haitian filmmakers should demand that producers and distributors make this info available. There won't be a viable Haitian film industry to talk about if there's no transparency, especially when the bootleggers are hauling a good chunk of the profits. It will be like the Haitian music industry where most of the artist hold second jobs and die broke, while a handful of producers and distributors get filthy rich.
